Your calculations stay in your browser
Velofy's calculators run entirely in your browser — your salary, loan amount, property value, rent and deductions are worked out on your device and are not sent to us. There are no accounts and no database of users tied to the calculators. The one exception is the optional NSW property-manager request form, which sends only the details you choose to submit, and only if you tick consent — see the opt-in section below. We also keep anonymous, first-party usage statistics — which pages get used and for how long — that are never linked to you and never include the numbers you type; see the usage-statistics section below. We also use Google Analytics to count visits; see the Google Analytics section below. Some pages show ads from Google; see the Advertising section below.
To understand which tools help people — and improve the right ones — we run our own small
usage counter on our own servers. No third party is involved. When you visit a page it
records: the page address, how long the tab was actually visible, a count of button
presses on the page outside the navigation and footer (a count only — never which button,
and never the numbers you type), whether your device is mobile or desktop, the country
your connection comes from, and the name of the site you arrived from (for example
“google.com” — never the full page you were on). If you click a link that
leaves Velofy, we also record the name of the site it points to (for example
“ppsr.gov.au”) — the site name only, never the full address, and never for
links in the navigation or footer. Some partner links leave through a short hop on our
own server (addresses starting with /go/) that counts the same click on our
side: which partner link it was, which Velofy page it was on, and the country the
connection came from — never your IP address, and nothing at all if your browser sends
the privacy signals below. We use this to see which of our links are actually
useful to people. Each send also carries a
random per-page identifier and a page counter used to de-duplicate and order views —
both are meaningless outside your own tab session. If you have used the
“save this scenario” feature on a calculator, the counter also includes a
single coarse flag saying that a saved scenario exists on your device and roughly how
old it is (four age bands only) — never the scenario itself, and none of the numbers
in it. On the Tax Outlook report page it also records the name of a step when it
happens, from a fixed list in the page’s own code: for example “a report was made
from a notice PDF” or “the PDF was emailed”. That is the
step’s name only, never a client’s name, never a figure, never anything typed. And
if you arrived from a link in one of our emails, a Tax Outlook PDF or a link someone shared
from a Velofy page, the first page of the visit records the campaign name written into that
link (for example “email/tax-outlook-1a” or “share/pay-rise-card”),
and nothing else from the address.
Pages from the same visit are grouped by a random session id kept in your browser’s sessionStorage. It isn’t a cookie, it can’t identify you, and your browser deletes it the moment the tab closes. Your IP address is never stored: we keep only a one-way scrambled fingerprint (a hash mixed with a secret) used to spot abuse and roughly count unique visitors — it cannot be reversed to your address. If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signal, we honour it and record nothing at all. Raw usage events are kept for up to 12 months, then deleted — only aggregate statistics (such as “average time on the tax calculator”) survive beyond that.
We also use Google Analytics 4, a Google service, to count visits to Velofy: which pages are viewed, how people arrive (for example from a search engine or a shared link), the type of device and browser, and the approximate location Google works out from the connection. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser so that it can tell visits apart. It does not receive the numbers you type into a calculator, and Google says Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. Google processes this data on its own servers, which may be outside Australia, under Google’s privacy policy (see also how Google uses data from sites that use its services). Unlike our own counter, Google Analytics does not read the Global Privacy Control or Do Not Track signals. To stop it, use Google’s opt-out browser add-on or block cookies for this site in your browser settings.
Some pages show ads served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to show ads based on your previous visits to Velofy and to other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners show you ads based on those visits. The ads do not receive the numbers you type into a calculator, and we do not choose which ad you see. The Tax Outlook report page shows no ads.
You can turn off personalised ads in Google’s Ad Settings, and opt out of other companies’ personalised ads at aboutads.info. Google processes this data on its own servers, which may be outside Australia, under Google’s privacy policy (see also how Google uses data from sites that use its services).
The NSW rent tools include one optional form. If — and only if — you submit it with the consent box ticked, we collect: your email address, and the property details you entered (postcode, dwelling type, bedrooms, current rent and the calculated gap). We use this to (a) email you when the local median moves, if you asked us to monitor, and/or (b) pass your request to up to three partner property-management agencies so they can contact you — that sharing is the purpose of the “get quotes” option and happens only with your consent. Every email we send includes an unsubscribe link (Spam Act 2003). We keep these details for up to 12 months, then delete them. To have yours deleted sooner, email us — address below — and we’ll confirm within 30 days. The calculator itself still sends nothing: this applies solely to the form.
Tax Outlook is free and works out and lays out client reports in your browser. Client figures are never sent to us, and client files are saved to your computer by your browser. A notice of assessment or return you drop onto the Tax Outlook page is read on your computer too: the file is not uploaded, and the tax file number on it is never read. Your firm’s name, logo, contact line and disclaimer are kept in your browser so they are there next time. There is no account and nothing to buy, so we hold nothing about you or your firm.
Velofy operates in Australia under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). Because the calculators don’t collect personal information on our servers — and our own usage statistics are anonymised by design (no identifiers, no stored IPs) — most of those obligations are handled by how the site is built. Google Analytics data is held by Google, which handles requests about it. The same goes for the data Google collects to show ads. The exception is the opt-in property-manager form described above: for it we follow the APPs on notice, consent, access, correction and deletion, and the Spam Act on unsubscribing. If you think we’ve mishandled your data, email — or complain directly to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Velofy provides general information, not financial product advice under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth), and holds no Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL). Calculations are illustrative and use publicly available ATO, APRA, ASIC, RBA and Treasury data. Speak to a registered tax agent (RTA) or licensed financial adviser before acting on a result.
